The region of northeastern of China is located in the middle and high latitudes of the Eurasian continent in the northern hemisphere. Under the influence of westerly belt, it is a humid, semi-humid and semi-arid area with cold temperate zone, temperate zone and warm temperate zone. It has obvious monsoon climate characteristics. The summer monsoon arrives late and retreat early, and winter is cold and long because of the high latitude. Temperature in summer is high and short and precipitation is concentrated. The cyclone and windy prevails in spring. Autumn is short and temperature drops rapidly.
The northeastern region spans 15 latitudes. The temperature decreases gradually from south to northwest with the increases of latitude. Annual average temperature of the area is -5 ℃ ~ 10 ℃. The average annual temperature of Liaodong Bay along the southern tip is about above 9 ℃, Dalian and other places are about above 10 ℃. Northwest of the Daxing'anling is below -5 ℃. The temperature difference is 15 ℃ between North and South. In addition, the temperature of mountain area decreases with the increase of altitude, the average annual temperature of Baitou Mountain is -7.4 ℃, which is the lowest in the region peak in this region.
The monthly average temperature is below -4 ℃, DaXing'an Mountains is -30 ℃~-28 ℃, that is the coldest region in winter, extreme minimum temperature of the northern Mohe is -52.3 ℃ (February 3, 1969). July is the hottest, the temperature is higher than 20 ℃ and above 24 ℃ in Liaohe River besides to Changbai Mountain and Daxing'anling mountain are below 18 ℃. Extreme maximum temperature is 42.5 ℃ (Chifeng City, 1955).
The wind speed is affected by cyclonic circulation and topography in the northeastern region, so the distribution is more regular. Due to the winter monsoon affected and in the back of cyclone, the northwest and north wind are prevailing. The southwest or south wind are prevailing from Liaodong Bay to Songhua River Basin (Anda, Suihua), Yichun and other Xiaoxing'anling mountains in northward. The west wind is most inChangbai Mountains, the southern Xiaoxing'anling Mountains and the eastern region.
There are approximately 2200 ~ 3000 sunlight hours yearly in northeast of China. The in northern mountains, Songnen Plain, eastern mountains, western and southern mountains are 2400 hours, 2500 ~ 2700 hours, 2400 ~ 2600 hours, 2700 ~ 3000 hours respectively. As far as months are concerned, the longest sunlight hours is appeared in May in southern region and June in northern region. The shortest sunlight hours is lighted up in December.
