The International Training Workshop on Resource & Environment Scientific Data Sharing along the“Belt and Road”successfully held at the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IGSNRR, CAS) from July 28th to August 11th, 2024. The training workshop attracted 70 applicants from 15 countries along the Belt and Road. Ultimately, 20 participants from seven countries: Pakistan, Mongolia, Russia, Egypt, Iran, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan, were admitted.
The 15-day training workshop focused on topics such as scientific data-sharing platform technologies, scientific data governance and standards, disaster risk reduction knowledge services, remote sensing monitoring for disaster emergencies, disaster risk assessment, data sharing, and international cooperation in disaster risk reduction. The workshop aimed to promote an international cooperation framework for resource and environmental data sharing, enhance regional disaster risk reduction and sustainable development capabilities, and support international research collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative.
At the opening ceremony, Prof. Su Fenzhen, Deputy Director of IGSNRR, CAS, delivered a welcome speech. Prof. Wang Juanle, Executive director of disaster risk reduction of the International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology under the Auspices of UNESCO (IKCEST-DRR), provided a brief review of previous international training workshops and outlined the key arrangements for this workshop. A total of 26 lectures and 5 technical visits were organized. Among them, Dr. Chang Liu, Secretary-General of IKCEST, made a presentation on “Current Practices of IKCEST. Prof. Wang Juanle made two reports on the "Frontiers and Trends of Earth’s Big Data" and "Disaster Risk Reduction Knowledge Service System, IKCEST under the Auspices of UNESCO".
