After 17 centuries, scholars found and excavated the ancient Pompeii and vividly present the real scene of Vesuvius's invasion, providing the most direct and authentic evidence for scholars to study the ancient Romans. "What a shocking sight it was," said Vainio, a historian who participated in the excavation, “Many people died in their sleep, and some died in their homes, raising their arms and gasping for air. Many people still have bread on the oven and dogs chained to the door. There were slaves tied with ropes and booklets made of papyrus on shelves in the library. On the wall election signs were posted and love words were scribbled.”
These scenes fully show how tens of thousands of people in the ancient city were suddenly and cruelly deprived of their lives! Seeing the bodies of men, women, the young and the old in various forms in the enclosed glass on display at Pompeii, most of which were already fossilized, we were horrified. In the face of the eternal universe and nature, man must first respect nature and protect the ecology. How small and powerless people seem to be playing against nature!
Pompeii is a historic city in Campania on the southwest corner of the Apennines, about 240 kilometers northwest of Rome, near Naples in southern Italy and 10 kilometers southwest of Vesuvius volcano. Located about 20 kilometers west of the picturesque bay of Naples, it is a summer resort with mountains and seas on its back. Built in the 6th century BC, it was destroyed by the eruption of mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
