1.Sierra Leone floods and landslides
On Aug. 14, landslides struck Sierra Leone. More than 1,000 people were killed and thousands were left homeless when heavy rain caused landslides and flooding around the capital city.
2.Hurricane Harvey
Harvey was the strongest hurricane to hit the United States since Hurricane Wilma in 2005 and the fiercest to strike southeast Texas since 1961. Officials estimated that 70 percent of Harris County, including Houston, was flooded by at least 1.5 feet of water, swamping more than 136,000 structures by Aug. 31.
3.Mexico earthquakes
Mexico suffered two major earthquakes in September. The first, on Sept. 7, struck in the state of Chiapas. Registering magnitude 8.2, it killed 98 people and affected more than 1.5 million. The second earthquake struck central Mexico in and around Mexico City on Sept. 19, measuring magnitude 7.1, killing 370 people and collapsing more than 40 buildings.
4.Iraq-Iran earthquake
In November, a 7.3 magnitude earthquake hit Sarpol-e Zahab county in Kermanshah, Iran, near the Iraq border. With at least 630 people killed (mostly in Iran and including at least 10 in Iraq), and more than 8,100 injured, as well as many more unaccounted for, it was the deadliest earthquake of 2017.
5.The worst floods of South Asia
On September, the worst floods in a decade poured over South Asia. 1,400 people were killed in monsoon rains that hit India, Nepal and Bangladesh.
6.Northern California wildfires
More than a dozen wildfires ravaged thousands of acres across Northern California in October, killing at least 11 people and destroying more than 1,500 commercial and residential buildings.
7.China flooding
From June to July, between 10cm and 50cm of rain has fallen in seven provinces, and storms stretching 1,600km (1,000 miles) swept across central and southern China. More than 180 people have been killed in flooding along the Yangtze River in China following torrential rain.
8.Landslide in Maoxian county , Sichuan province in south-western China
A catastrophic landslide occurred at Xinmo village in Maoxian County, Sichuan Province, China, on June 24, 2017. A 2.87×106 m3 rock mass collapsed and entrained the surface soil layer along the landslide path. 83 people were killed or went missing and more than 103 houses were destroyed.
9. Mudslide in Colombia
A deadly mudslide killed at least 200 people in Mocoa, Colombia in early April 2017.
10. Vietnam typhoon
At 5th November 2017, typhoon Damrey which battered southern and central Vietnam had killed 61 local people, sank nearly 230 cargo and fishing ships and boats, destroyed more than 1,000 houses, mainly in central Khanh Hoa province.
