The reasons of forest damage caused by the ice-snow disaster can be divided into physical damage and physiological damage. Among the factors that affect the resistance of trees, the intensity and duration of weather disasters are the decisive reasons for the destruction of forests. For a typical ice-snow disaster, when the weight of snow or ice falling on a tree exceeds the limit of the trees, it could cause bending or make the trees broken, which would have the permanent internal physiological damage to the trees.
With the WebGIS technology, the knowledge service of forest freezing, rain and snow disaster prevention and reduction in southern China has been released. This knowledge service shows the daily precipitation and temperature distribution of snow and ice disaster across southern China from January 10th to February 2nd in 2008. MapServer is used to release Web Map Service (WMS) referring the international specifications and standards. The combination of data and MapBox tiles is used by LeafletJS to generate the GIS map view. When the app page is opened, the GIS image could be visualized as the map service.
Selecting GIS data operation in the sidebar navigation, you can see the corresponding options (Snow & ice disaster types and dates). Clicking the drop-down arrow, the list of types (Precipitation and Temperature) and dates (from January 10th to February 2nd in 2008) could be displayed. Documents and information are classified by label control. Additional links for related pages are listed in the app page for user to get more readings.
The information is provided by the DRR Knowledge Service System of IKCEST.
