The opening ceremony of the International Training on Resource & Environment Scientific Data Sharing along the “Belt and Road”, was held at the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences on May 6th, 2019.
The opening ceremony of the International Training on Resource & Environment Scientific Data Sharing along the “Belt and Road”, was held at the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IGSNRR, CAS) on May 6th, 2019. The workshop, serving for the developing countries along the "Belt and Road” was supported by the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Science and Technology of People’s Republic of China, Bureau of International Co-operation, Chinese Academy of Sciences and the International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology of UNESCO(IKCEST). Ming Zhang, deputy director of Department of External Cooperation of IGSNRR, CAS, Chang Liu, director of Division of International Cooperation of IKCEST and Fenzhen Su, director of the National Key Laboratory of Resources and Environmental Information System of IGSNRR, CAS attended the opening ceremony. Juanle Wang, who is in charge of the training workshop, deputy director of the Geo-Data Science and Sharing Department, and technical director of the IKCEST Disaster Risk Reduction Knowledge Service Sub-platform, moderated the opening ceremony.
Juanle Wang made a brief review of the international training courses held in the past, introduced the past subjects, technology visit, academic exchange activities, the current scientific progress and cooperation results of international cooperation with Mongolia and Russia, and the curriculum arrangement of this training course. On behalf of the IGSNRR, CAS, Ming Zhang congratulated the opening of the training course and welcomed the international participants. Ming Zhang pointed out that IGSNRR, CAS have attached importance to international cooperation for a long time. Last year, the First General Assembly of the Alliance of International Science Organizations in the Belt and Road Region initiated by the Chinese Academy of Sciences deepened cooperation with relevant countries, especially the developing countries. He believed that through this training, we would enhance the ability of scientific data sharing and the friendship between scientists and the scientific research cooperation in the " Belt and Road" region. On behalf of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and IKCEST, Chang Liu warmly welcomed all the trainees, and introduced the development and main work contents of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and IKCEST, and welcomed the participants to visit the headquarters of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and IKCEST during the training period. Fenzhen Su, on behalf of the National Key Laboratory of Resources and Environmental Information System, warmly welcomed the trainees. He hoped to strengthen the cooperation and exchanges between the National State Key Laboratory and the research institutes where the trainees work. He also wished all the trainees a smooth life and study in Beijing.
As the representatives of the trainees, Dr. Evgenii Egidarev from the Pacific Geographical Institute of the Far Eastern Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences, Dr. Basanta Paudel from the Tribhuvan University, Mr Chultem Batbold from National University of Mongolia and Ms Lemya Naway from the University of Bahri made a speech in the conference.
There are 18 trainees from 8 countries, including Russia, Mongolia, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Thailand, Bolivia and Sudan. The training workshop will last 20 days, focuses on the themes of resources and environmental scientific data sharing. The program includes 21 lecture reports, 6 technical visits and 2 computer operations training. There are lectures and reports about the Belt and Road, coordinated development and data integration, data and knowledge services for disaster risk reduction, resources and environmental data platforms and techniques, scientific data standards, scientific research information innovations and practices, processing methods of the remote sensing and GIS data. In addition, the trainees are going to take part in the World Data System Asia-Oceania Conference 2019 held on May 7th-8th, and the International Conference on Silk Roads Disaster Risk Reduction and Sustainable Development was held on May 11th-12th.
