On March 19th, Disaster Risk Reduction Office of Jilin province sent working groups to eastern Yanbian, western Songyuan and Baicheng districts for the prevention of floods and droughts in Jilin province.
From winter in 2017 to spring in 2018, the rainfalls in most districts were 11%- 101% more than the amount in the same period of previous years, except that the rainfall in Baicheng was 43% less than that in the same period of the year. The rainfall in Yanbian had the highest increase since the founding of the People’s Republic. As of March 11th, the water storage capacity of large and medium-sized reservoirs in Jilin Province was 14.252 billion cubic meters, nearly 30% more than the same period of the year.
As it is monitored, the soil relative humidity of depth 20 cm was insufficient in western Jilin. The farmland soil is relatively dry, showing that drought has appeared, especially in Zhenlai, Tongyu, Da’an, Changling and Qian’an. Disaster Reduction Office of Jilin province has started the drought monitoring and statistics system to closely monitor the drought situation. The inspection teams had investigated the moisture of soil to prepare for the maintenance of pump racks and expedient water source.
