There were serious flood disasters in the 31 years between 1746 and 1950, and the disaster mostly prominent in 1856, 1888, 1909, 1923 and 1932, which had a large disaster area and severe situation.
There was a catastrophic flood in the area of the middle of Jinlin province, Lalin River in Heilongjiang province and the middle and downstream of Liao River in Liaoning province in July, 1856 (in June and July of the six year of XiangFeng, Qing dynasty). This flood was the most serious one in recent 100 years in the second Songhua River and Lalin River.
There is no information about the observation of rainfall in 1856 and no concret introduction of the rain condition in the survey documentary. There is just some fragmentary record in some historical document, such as in County annals of Maiji, County annals of Lishu, County annals of Kaiyuan, Factual Record of Qing dynasty and the History of water history etc.
According to the information above, there was a run of wet weather in July and August, 1856. By analyzing the range of this rainfall and flood, this storm was similar to the flood in 1953. The precipitation was large and the storm covered a large range, but the space distribution of the rainfall was relatively uniform. The center of this storm was located in the upper stream of Huifa River and Lalin River.
