From 14 to18 March, the World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR) takes place in Sendai, Japan. In Sendai, a new Disaster Risk Reduction Framework (HFA2) will come into effect, succeeding the current Hyogo Framework of Action (HFA). The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has been working closely with many National Societies in the lead up to Sendai to ensure that the resulting declaration reflects the needs and aspirations of vulnerable communities.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies will actively participate in the conference with a delegation led by IFRC President – Tadateru Konoé. The delegation will include IFRC Secretary General, Elhadj As Sy and 120 senior representatives from 42 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies together with technical experts from three Red Cross Red Crescent reference centres – the Climate Centre, Global Disaster Preparedness Centre and Livelihoods Resource Centre.
