The 4th World Landslide Forum held in the Cankarjev dom – Cultural and Congress Centre in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from 29 May to 2 June 2017 under the honorary patronage of His Excellency Mr. Borut Pahor, President of the Republic of Slovenia. The forum has a total of five major themes and 19 chapters, and more than 600 experts and scholars attended the Forum.
The 4th World Landslide Forum (WLF) held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from May 29 to June 2, 2017. WLF is a triennial world conference of scientists, policy makers, professional engineers and practitioners, aiming at international exchange of knowledge, experiences and latest trends in science and engineering development and with focus on landslide risk governance. The 1st WLF (Tokyo 2008), the 2nd WLF (Rome 2011) and the 3rd WLF (Beijing 2014) have made contributions to build a sustainable system of prevention and disaster relief in the field of landslide disasters risk reduction. The event is jointly organized by the International Consortium on Landslides (Kyoto, Japan), the International Programme on Landslides (IPL), the University of Ljubljana and the Geological Survey of Slovenia. The Forum take"Landslide Research and Risk Reduction for Advancing Culture of Living with Natural Hazards" as this theme, and is a contribution to the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 which was adopted by UN Member States in March 2015 at the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (3rd WCDRR) in Sendai City, Japan.
The Forum has received the attention and support of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (INISDR). At the opening ceremony, Director of the UNESCO Office for Environmental and Earth Sciences, Director of the Earth and Biosphere, President of the Global Council for the Promotion of Landslide Research, Qunli Han, the Third Chairman of the International Consortium on Landslides (ICL) ,Yin Yueping, the Executive Chairman of the 4th World Landslide Forum, Marjas Mikos, made speeches respectively.
The forum has a total of five major themes and 19 chapters, each organized in several parallel technical sessions. And more than 600 experts and scholars attended the Forum. Among them, China has more than 50 representatives. China Geological Survey Bureau of Geological Environment Monitoring Institute and other 20 institutions were awarded the "Global Landslide Disaster Reduction Center" title.
The Fifth World Landslide Forum,” Implementing and Monitoring the ISDR-ICL Sendai Partnerships 2015-2025-Voluntary contribution to the Sendai Framework 2015-2030 and the Agenda 2030-Sustainable Development Goals-“will be held on November 2- 6, 2020, Kyoto, Japan, and now it is calling for Session proposals for full color books and CD proceedings, Sponsors and Exhibition.
