Generally the ice accretion of glaze is 40 ~ 70 mm in diameter, while it can be hundreds of millimeters sometimes. The ice accretion with the longest diameter 1200mm appeared on Mount Heng, namely Nanyue. The second longest one is 711 mm on the Green Onion Slope in Badong, and the third longest one is 648 mm on the Xuefeng Mountain in Hunan.

The difference between glaze and the frozen surface water is quite obvious. Glaze freezes when dropping and sticks to the appearance of a bare object without loss as thicker and thicker solid ice making the object bear more load. Severe glaze can break branches, crops, wires, buildings and blocks traffic.

The meteorological station observe glaze ice in this way: the wires are thicker and thicker as glaze freezes, whereas the accumulation of the glaze reaches a certain point the "glaze" Popsicle turns broken gradually without doubt, so then the observes will simply remove all the residual ice and let the glaze refreeze on the wires. On high mountains, there may be several times of removing and cleaning, or even more than a dozen times before the glaze stops. According to the regulations of the meteorological department, the sum of the maximum diameter of each fragmentation is the maximum diameter of ice accumulation in the whole process of glaze.
