From May 12-16th, 2018, Disaster Risk Reduction Knowledge Service (DRR) team attended the International Conference for the Decade Memory of the Wenchuan Earthquake in Chengdu, China. The theme of the conference is “Co-exist with Earthquake Risk” with five sub-themes as follows: visible crust, earthquake dissection, resilient cities and towns, smart service and regional international cooperation.
Prof. Wang Juanle, the executive director of DRR, participated in the discussions focusing on the Session S4-2-1 Build back better: recovery after great disaster and building community resilience of the sub-theme of smart service, and showed the presentation of Disaster Risk Reduction Knowledge Service and its Application in Earthquake Relief in China.
After the conference, DRR team visited the earthquake sites of Beichuan and Donghekou of Qingchuan, the Shaba Fault, the 5.12 Wenchuan Earthquake Memorial Hall, the Qingchuan seismological relics National Geopark Museum and the post-disaster reconstruction site of Beichuan.
DRR team is deeply aware of the mission of disaster prevention and reduction and earthquake relief. They will take the disaster prevention and reduction as their mission and make more contributions to international cooperation on disaster reduction in the future.
