On August 26-27 2017, the first Badong International Geohazards Symposium (BIGS 2017) and the seventh youth Symposium on engineering geology were held in Badong County, Hubei province, China. The meeting was sponsored by the China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the people's Government of Badong County, Hubei Province. More than 300 famous experts and scholars from 12 countries and regions, including the United States, Britain, Germany, Australia, Canada, Hungary, France, New Zealand and Hongkong, attended the meeting.
The theme of this forum is "the prevention and control of reservoir landslide geological hazard". The meeting has 12 themes reports, 9 invited papers and 50 conference panels, topics include: evolution of geological disasters, geological disasters early identification, geological disaster monitoring and warning, geological disaster prevention and control technology , geological disaster field test site, geological disasters defense management and etc. The purpose of the conference is to further promote the frontier problems and practical application of geological disaster prevention and control in the Three Gorges Reservoir area, so as to promote the development of related disciplines in the field of geological disaster.
After the opening ceremony, the experts and scholars fully exchanged the latest progress in the field of landslide geological hazard prevention and control at home and abroad. It provides a new way to solve the complex geological disaster of the reservoir. This meeting will certainly promote the progress and development of the theory and practice of disaster prevention and reduction of geological disasters in reservoirs. At the same time, it will further promote the close contact and cooperation between China University of Geosciences and foreign scientific research institutions in the field of International Geological disasters.
In the field of investigation, more than 300 experts and scholars along the Jiangnan and Jiangbei 2 field routes investigated 4 route points.
