How to perform artificial respiration

The patient's condition should be observed and the state of artificial respiration should be defined before receiving artificial respiration.

Artificial respiration is one of the most important measures in modern first as it can save a person's life in an emergency. However, improper artificial respiration can cause more harm to critically ill patients and even accelerate their death.

First of all, the rescue personnel should judge whether the site environment is safe. After judging the safety of the site environment, they should quickly come to the patient. First, determine the patient's consciousness. Speak to the patient gently, and if he or she does not respond, you can assume that the patient is seriously ill. Then make a quick 120 emergency call. Artificial respiration should begin immediately.

(1) Open the airway. Place the patient on a solid surface and keep him in a supine position. Open his airway by pressing his forehead and chin. The specific operations are as follow: press the lateral side of one hand on the forehead of the patient, put the finger tip of the index finger and middle finger of the other hand on the bone center of the patient's lower frontal bone and lift the patient's head back, so as to make the patient move up the tongue without blocking the airway, and ensure free breathing.

(2) Judge whether the patient is breathing. Put your head down and look at the patient's chest. After 10 seconds of observation, if the patient is found breathing abnormally, then put in place artificial respirations twice.

(3) Artificial ventilation. Hold the patient's nostril, keep the airway open, cover the patient's mouth with your mouth and blow air in. The duration of blowing is 2 seconds each time. The capacity of blowing is 700~1000 ml for adults. After two breaths, check the patient's carotid artery and determine the patient's circulatory signs. If the patient has neither a carotid pulse nor any response after 10 seconds, which shows that the heart of the patient stops work, then do chest compressions.

Experts remind

For an inexperienced person, you can skip the carotid artery and just observe the patient's response, including whether he has cough, physical movement and acts of resistance when blowing air. If there is no response, then perform chest compressions.
