Located in the joint area between continent and oceans, China is facing Pacific, the world's largest ocean, on the east and lean on Qinghai- Xizhang Plateau, the world's highest plateau, spanning 50 latitudes from north to south with a complex weather system. China is sited in the intersection between the world's most powerful circum Pacific tectonic belt and the Tethys tectonic belt with a complex geological structure and a diversified geographical and ecological environment. Taking China’s being a populous agricultural country in to consideration; the ability to withstand disasters is low. All these factors are stacked together to make China one of the few countries that have suffered the most serious natural disasters in the world.
Some research show that natural variation increases in high frequency fluctuations, and the effect of man-made disasters is enhanced. In the early twenty-first Century, there is going to be a new period during which natural disasters will occur frequently in China. The strong typhoon will be more active and rainstorm and flood disasters will also increase, which means the possibility of basin flood would ascent and these disasters such as flood, landslide and debris flow will occur more frequently. In northern areas, some regions will have a bigger chance of extreme low temperature as well as heavy snows. What’s more, seasonal rainfall distribution will not be balanced, which would deteriorate the persistent drought condition in northern areas and high temperature heat wave situation in southern parts of China which could increase the possibility of heavy drought. Forest and grassland fires will have a higher chance to take place. The trend of desertification in northern area may be increased, agricultural pests could be expanded. Some marine disasters will occur in a higher possibility, such as storm tide, red tide etc.
