Rain can wash out the dirt in the air and bring freshness. However, an invisible may hide in this drizzling rain. That is acid rain.

As one of the global disasters that humans meet, acid rain is also called "the tears of heaven" or "Death in air". As for now, Western Europe, Northern America and Southeastern Asia are three main areas of acid rain. Adjacent areas of acid rain also exist in the south of the Yangtze River.

Acid rain is acidic rain. Pure water is neutral with pH 7, but the CO2, a kind of acidic gas, is easily soluble in water to become weak carbonic acid, which lowers the pH of rain with little acidity. However, this kind of rain isn’t deserved to be called acid rain because of the benefits the pure or little acidic rain brings to solve the nutrient substances in water and help plants to utilize them.

When there is acid rain, 15% to 60% of forests wither extensively as a result of the erosion from acid rain with varying degrees. If this continues, all forests will extinguish in the near future. Not only does acid rain put forests in danger, it also erodes the soil and deteriorate the agriculture. Besides acid rain eat off cement and marbles and rusts the metal surface. Therefore, buildings are easy to be impaired. So are the sculptures in parks and many historic relics.

If the cost of acid rain is measured in money, it is huge. But except economic losses, many damage can not be mended by money.
