Ten space disasters listed by the United States that may destroy the Earth

According to the US Exploration magazine, the universe is trying to kill mankind! In his book Death from Space, American astronaut Phil Plait lists ten disasters that can destroy the earth. In the next millions of years, cosmic dust may have a significant impact on the earth: the sun may collide with the nearest spiral arm structure of the Milky Way; perhaps the earth may collide with an asteroid in the near future.

(1)Asteroid collision

Degree damage: Smaller asteroid collisions may cause regional disasters on the earth, and larger asteroid collisions may cause global disasters.

Probability of a fatal disaster: one-700000th.

Prevented or not: It can be prevented almost 100% by detecting potential asteroid collisions, and then blasting or pushing the asteroid out of its orbit.

(2)Solar flares

Damage degree: The power system is interrupted, which may cause the ozone layer to decrease.

Probability of a fatal disaster: zero.

Prevented or not: It is not preventable, but the damaged power system can be repaired and restored.

(3)Supernova explosion

Damage degree: the ozone layer is depleted, and radiation is radiated to the earth's atmosphere.

Probability of a fatal disaster: 1 in 10 million.

Prevented or not: unpreventable.

(4) Gamma ray burst

Damage degree: the ozone layer is depleted, radiation is radiated to the earth's atmosphere, and fires of varying degrees appear on the earth's surface.

Probability of a fatal disaster: 1 in 14 million.

Prevented or not: unpreventable.

(5)Black hole

Damage degree: Destroy the earth.

Probability of a fatal disaster: one in a trillion.

Prevented or not: unpreventable.

(6)Alien attack

Damage degree: aliens will launch an attack on humans on earth, and the invasion of aliens will change the lives of humans.

Probability of a fatal disaster: unknown.

Prevented or not: It is preventable. First assume that humans will migrate to other planets, otherwise humans will not be able to avoid this disaster.

(7)The sun perishes

Degree of damage: the earth will become very hot and can bake potato chips.

Probability of fatal disaster: above zero.

Prevented or not: it is not preventable, but this possibility will wait a long time.

(8)Galactic doom

Damage degree: The earth will be frozen, or under the threat of radiation radiation, or be whispered by a supermassive black hole.

Probability of fatal disaster: above zero.

Prevented or not: It is not preventable, but it may not happen in the human age.

(9)Cosmic extinction

Degree of damage: all cosmic matter begins to decay and the pseudo vacuum collapses.

Probability of fatal disaster: above zero.

Prevented or not: non preventable.

(10)An inevitable catastrophic event in the solar system that may cause extensive damage

Catastrophic events in the solar system take at least billions of years to occur. Therefore, the probability of occurrence is almost zero in the age of human existence on Earth. However, as time goes by, catastrophic events will inevitably occur in the solar system over a long period of time.
