The online map of disaster frequency distribution by disaster type in Jiangsu Province in 2014 is from the Atlas of natural disasters in China in 2014, the book is edited by the National Disaster Reduction Commission Office, the Disaster relief Department of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the National Disaster Reduction Center of Ministry of Civil Affairs, and is published by China Map Publishing House. The scale of this map is 1:4000000.

Jiangsu Province

In 2014, the disaster situation in Jiangsu Province was lighter than that in recent years, with drought as the main disaster, the affected population, dead and missing people, emergency resettlement population, collapsed houses, damaged houses and direct economic losses were the lowest in recent years.

1.Less number of disasters and light loss

Compared with 2013, the number of natural disasters decreased by about 1/4. Affected counties (cities, districts) accounted for 47% of the total number of counties (cities, districts) in the whole province, with a decrease of nearly 40% compared with 2013. There was no destructive earthquake, serious flood disaster and typhoon attack in the whole year. Compared with the average value since 2000, the main disaster indicators are more than 50% less, including the death population, the number of emergency resettlement population, the number of collapsed houses and the number of damaged houses are more than 90%.

2.Less precipitation in summer and autumn, and relatively prominent drought disaster

From the middle of June to the middle of July, there was a continuous high temperature and little rain weather in Huaibei area. The average precipitation was 56.8 mm, which was the lowest since 1961, the average rainfall of Xuzhou, Lianyungang and Sufu decreased by 62%, 54% and 41% respectively compared with the same period of the year, soil water was deficient in most of the areas, and drought occurred in hilly areas. Drought disaster caused a large area of crop wilt, plant dwarf, part of yellow hair dry, corn, soybean, cotton, peanut and other crops due to missed the growth period of irrigation, resulting in yield reduction. The disaster stricken population, crop area and direct economic losses caused by drought in the three cities of Northern Jiangsu accounted for 86%, 83% and 64% of the total losses of the whole province respectively.

The closer to the light yellow area, the lower the proportion of the total number of disasters in the area.
