Abstract:
1.Earth Observation is in the Era of Big Data
Earth observation has entered into the big data era
in term of application demands, technology development and
data policies.(1)Global Earth observation has formed a
strong technical capability and system, and the field of
Earth observation has entered a new era characterized by
high-precision, all-weather condition and automated rapid
processing.(2)Higher requirements ,such as GEOSS Ten Year
Implementation Plan,DBAR Science Plan,Major natural disaster
monitoring and disaster assessment, post-disaster reconstruction, are placed on the type, quantity, quality, frequency of
satellite remote sensing data sources.(3)Data policy - Data
sharing:“Freely available satellite imagery will improve
science and environmental-monitoring products“,
say Michael A. Wulder and Nicholas C. Coops.
2.A new Service system of big Earth Observation data -CASEarth Databank
New Challenges of Remote Sensing Information Service in the Era of Big Data:""data intensive computing"", ”Demands for value-added services”, ”Information mining methods” and “Demand-driven active remote sensing product service model”. New Opportunity: cloud computing, cognitive era, artificial intelligence 2.0. The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) launched a project entitled “Big Earth Data Science Engineering (CASEarth)” in the Strategic Priority Research Program (SPRP) of the CAS , 2018, CASEarth intends to break through the bottleneck of data sharing, and will build a databank system for big Earth Observation data sharing and information services.
3.Global SDGs related products and applications
Giving 30m resolution of global forest cover, burned areas as examples:how to produce the products, how the products to be used for SDGs monitoring and assessment .
