The scale of this map is 1:11000000.

Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region

In 2014, the disaster situation in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region was the same as that in recent years, with earthquakes, floods and geological disasters, low temperature freezing and snow disasters as the main disasters, and the direct economic loss was the highest in recent years.

1.Frequent disasters, local loss and weightlessness

Xinjiang suffered from various natural disasters such as low temperature freezing, snow disasters, earthquakes, wind and hail, floods, droughts, and geological disasters throughout the year, causing casualties and economic losses. From January to October, there were 9 earthquakes of magnitude 4 or higher and 6 earthquakes of magnitude 5 or higher, among them, the Yutian earthquake of magnitude 7.3 on February 12 and multiple aftershocks caused a large number of houses to collapse and damage. Wind and hail disasters occurred frequently throughout the year, and Aksu, Bortala, Ili and Tacheng regions were more seriously affected, during the news period, floods occurred frequently, and the Kashgar area, Kyzyl Suzhou, Ili Prefecture, and Altay area were severely affected.

2.Obvious seasonal and regional characteristics

In the spring, the disasters were mainly low temperature freezing and snow disasters, and snow-melting floods occurred locally, Hami, Yili Prefecture, and Changji Prefecture were more severely affected, from April to September, droughts occurred in some areas, causing serious crop yields or no harvests. During the flood season, some areas are attacked by severe convective weather such as rainfall and hail, causing floods, wind and hail, landslides and other disasters, resulting in death of personnel, flooding of crops and damage of houses.
