Introduction
"The Institute was established in 1994 as an interdisciplinary academic center affiliated with the University's School of Engineering and Applied Science, School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and Elliott School of International Affairs. The capabilities of the Institute are enhanced by its close links with other academic and research centers and a broad range of Federal, State, local and international governmental and nongovernmental organizations. ICDRM provides a unique, interdisciplinary environment, producing highly competent professionals with both theoretical and applied knowledge and skills. The Institute has been successful in helping to place graduates in crisis, emergency, and risk management positions in public, private and non-profit organizations. Representative positions held by alumni of ICDRM academic programs include: 1) emergency managers for State and local emergency management agencies (including a State director), emergency managers for large public and private universities, the office of the US Senate Sergeant-at-Arms, and departments of health; 2) emergency management-related positions for branches of the U.S. Military, Federal Emergency Management Agency, US Department of Health and Human Services, US Postal Service, US Environmental Protection Agency and the US Department of Homeland Security; 3) faculty positions at US and international institutions of higher learning; 4) business continuity and/or risk management professional positions in government and industry; and 5) academic and professional positions outside the United States, and in the World Bank and other international organizations."
