The dataset gives an average annual number of deaths per 1,000 people in a year; Also known as crude mortality. Although the mortality rate is only a rough indicator of a country's mortality status, it accurately shows the current impact of mortality on population growth. This indicator is heavily influenced by the age distribution, and while death rates continue to fall across all age groups, overall death rates will eventually rise in most countries as declining fertility rates lead to an ageing population.
