There is a great discrepancy between the north part and the south part of Northeast area in rainfall, heavy in south while light in north. According to 80 years'data, annual average rainfall in Shenyang city was 600 mm, 504 mm in flood seasons(from June to September), average rainfall in Changchun city was 608 mm, 465 mm in flood seasons, annual average rainfall in Haerbin city was 544 mm, 420 mm in flood seasons. The annual average rainfall difference was 152 mm and 84 mm in flood period.
The south part of Northeast area had little rainfall at the beginning of this century, middle area was much more and north part is normal; whole area had a normal situation in 1920s, rainy in 1930s, and less rain in 1940s, especially in the middle part and north part. In 1950s, when there was much rainfall overall, it was the rainy period in the century. In 1960s, rainfall was rich in north than south, and there was drought overall in 1970s, especially in north part, which had its most dry period in this century. And in 1980s, the amount of rainfall just came to a normal level. Of course, these three stations just reflected the general tendency in Northeast of China, in essence, the situation was much more complex in reality.
There were 3 to 4 times changes of flood periods and dry periods, which happened every 20 to 30 years in the past 100 years in the three stations. From 1930s to 1950s, it was rainy in most Northeast area while in the beginning of this century, 1940s,1970s, and 1980s, it was very dry .
