Brief Introduction

The Republic of South Sudan, referred to as "South Sudan", is an inland country in East Africa, which is divided into 10 states. It has a total land area of 619745 square kilometers and a population of about 11.9 million (February 2016). South Sudan borders Ethiopia in the East, the Central African Republic in the west, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya and Uganda in the south, and Sudan in the north. The capital is Juba (South Sudan President Keele issued an order in September 2011, which decided to make Ramsar the new capital of the country, and planned to complete the relocation within 5 to 8 years).

South Sudan was originally part of the United Kingdom and Egypt's joint administration of Sudan, after 1956, it became a part of the Republic of Sudan, belonging to 10 states in southern Sudan. After the first civil war in Sudan, southern Sudan gained autonomy from 1972 to 1983. The second Sudan civil war broke out in 1983, and the comprehensive peace agreement was signed in 2005, and an autonomous government of southern Sudan was established. In 2011, the referendum on the independence of South Sudan was adopted, and the Republic of South Sudan declared its independence at 0:00 on July 9, 2011, becoming the 54th country on the African continent.

South Sudan is one of the least developed countries in the world, its roads, water and electricity, health care, education and other infrastructure and social services are seriously lacking, and its commodities basically rely on imports with high prices. The international community has provided a lot of assistance to South Sudan in infrastructure construction and public services.

On July 14, 2011, the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted the Security Council's proposal for South Sudan to join the United Nations, thus South Sudan became the 193th member state of the United Nations; on August 15 of the same year, the African Union officially accepted South Sudan as its 54th member state. On April 15, 2016, South Sudan officially joined the East African community and became the sixth member of the organization.
