Spain (full name: Kingdom of Spain) is a constitutional monarchy in southwestern europe.Spain is a mountainous country with a total area of 505925 square kilometers, with a coastline of about 7800 km. Its mainland is bordered to the south and east by the Mediterranean Sea except for a small land boundary with Gibraltar; to the north and northeast by France, Andorra, and the Bay of Biscay; and to the west and northwest by Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean. It is the only European country to have a border with an African country (Morocco) and its African territory accounts for nearly 5% of its population, mostly in the Canary Islands but also in Ceuta and Melilla
In modern history, Spain was an important place of cultural origin. During the Renaissance, Spain was the most powerful country in europe. Spain become the global empire in the mid sixteenth Century to the end of fifteenth Century. At this point, the number of countries used in Spanish as the official language is second in the world, second only to english.
Spain's capitalist mixed economy is the 14th largest worldwide and the 5th largest in the European Union, as well as the Eurozone's 4th largest.
