On June 19, 2023, Tropical Depression Three formed over the Atlantic and strengthened to form Tropical Storm Bret, the second named storm of the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season. Bret gradually intensified as it moved across the Atlantic Ocean westward towards the Lesser Antilles. By June 20, 2023, a “Tropical Storm Watch” was in effect for Barbados, Dominica, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, and Saint Lucia. By 11:00 PM on June 21, 2023, the “Tropical Storm Watch” was elevated to a “Tropical Storm Warning”. Over the period June 22 -23, 2023, Bret moved across the Windward Islands with its center passing north of Barbados and over northern St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Damage from storm force gusts, heavy rains, floods and storm surge were reported across the impacted states. As of 5:00 PM June 23, 2023, Bret crossed the island arc into the Caribbean Sea where gradual weakening is anticipated over the next couple days. Bret is forecast to dissipates over the Central Caribbean Sea by Saturday into Sunday, June 24 -25, 2023.
