The 5·12 Wenchuan earthquake occurred in Beijing time on May 12, 2008 at 14:28 and 4 seconds, according to China Earthquake Administration. The earthquake had a magnitude of 8.0Ms and a moment magnitude of 8.3 Mw, and the seismic intensity reached 11 degrees.The Wenchuan earthquake severely damaged more than 100,000 square kilometers in the areas,including 10 counties (cities) in the hardest-hit areas, 41 counties (cities) in the worst-hit areas, and 186 counties (cities) in the disaster area. As of 12:00 on September 18, 2008, A total of 69227 people were killed, 374643 people were injured and 17923 people were lost during the Wenchuan earthquake .It was the most destructive earthquake since the founding of the People's Republic of China.The immediate economic loss caused by Wenchuan earthquake was 845.14 billion yuan. The earthquake caused the largest loss in Sichuan, 91.3% of the total loss, 5.8% in Gansu and 2.9% in Shaanxi.
