The meteorological department stipulates that the daily rainfall is greater than or equal to 50 millimeters, called rainstorm, and the daily rainfall is greater than or equal to 100 millimeters, called torrential rain. In addition, according to the scope of rainstorm cover, the Northeast rainstorm can be divided into 3 categories:
The first category, local rainstorm: the number of rainstorm stations within 2 days in the region is less than 5;
The second category, regional rainstorm: the number of rainstorm stations within 2 consecutive days in the region is>5;
The third category, rainstorm of large area: 2 consecutive days rainstorm station number >10 (containing large rainstorm station number >4), or >12 (containing a rainstorm station number big rainstorm station number 3), or >13 (containing a rainstorm station number big rainstorm station number 2), or rainstorm station number >14 (containing heavy rain station number >1), or the rainstorm station number >18.
Liaoning Province, according to 1956~1987 statistics, there were local heavy rain 474 times, an average of 14.8 times a year; regional rainstorm 190 times, an average of 5.9 times a year; large area heavy rain 67 times, an average of 2.1 times a year. In Jilin province from the year 1956~1989 a total of local heavy rain 473 times, an average of 14 times a year; 90 Regional Rainstorm on average, 2.7 times a year; large area heavy rain 14 times, about every 5 years 2 times. Heilongjiang province 1956-1985 total local heavy rain 436 times, an average of 14.5 times a year; regional rainstorm 58 times, an average of 2 times a year;.A wide range of rainstorms occurred 5 times, about 1 times every 6 years.
The local rainstorms occur most frequent , accounting for 65~88% of the total number of rainstorms, followed by regional heavy rain, accounting for 12~26%, the largest range of Rainstorm at least, accounting for 1~10% of the total number of rainstorms. The regional distribution of regional rainstorm and super range rainstorm is very different. The regional rainstorm occurred 190 times in Liaoning Province, 3.3 times of Heilongjiang province's 58 times, and Jilin province is between them. The occurrence times of super range rainstorm have greater differences between the north and the south in Liaoning Province, and there were 67 times of Heilongjiang Province, Liaoning province is only 5 times, 13 times in Heilongjiang province. In short, the distribution of rainstorm frequency has the trend of more in the South and less in the North.
