The Islamic Republic of Mauritania (Abbreviation: Mauritania) is located in northwest Africa, and located between 15-27 degrees north latitude, with an area of 1030700 square kilometers. Mauritania borders the Atlantic Ocean in the west, Western Sahara and Algeria in the north, Mali in the southeast and Senegal in the south. The area is a tropical desert climate, the whole terrain is flat. Two thirds of the area is desert.
Mauritania became a "Semi Autonomous Republic" in 1956, joined the "French community" in September 1958, and announced the establishment of "Islamic Republic of Mauritania" in November. Mauritania has a parliamentary system. The parliament has a bicameral system with the president of the state as the head of state, and the Council of ministers as the highest executive organ and the highest administrative organ.
Mauritanians generally welcome distinguished guests and are used to "roast whole sheep" as the most cordial hospitality.
