Gambia (Full name: the Islamic Republic of Gambia, and the Republic of Gambia in Taiwan) is located at 13 ° 28 'N and 16 ° 39' W along the Atlantic coast of West Africa, it is adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean in the west, and closely surrounded by Senegal in the north, East and South, with a total area of 10380 square kilometers.
The Republic of Gambia has about 1.8 million people (in 2011) and a gross domestic product (GDP) of $1.256 billion (2014). The official languages of the Gambia, however, Mandingo, WOLOF, Fula and Selahuri are often used among the people. The Republic of Gambia is the smallest country on the African continent.
On December 12, 2015, the Republic of Gambia changed its name to "Islamic Republic of Gambia".
On March 17, 2016, the People's Republic of China announced the full restoration of diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level with Gambia.
