Gradual warming of Earth's surface, oceans and atmosphere is one major characteristic of global environmental change over the last hundreds of years. It has brought profound impacts on the sustainable development of the natural environment and the social economy. The report firstly reviews four major challenges facing the community who research global changes : thorough scientific understandings of the global environmental changes, management and analysis of the massive heterogeneous Earth science data, paradigm shifts in the way of performing scientific studies in this filed, and making research replicable and reproducible. The second part focuses on the GlobalChangeONE project, which aims to build a research cyberinfrastructure dedicated for global change studies. In particular, the following progresses are highlighted: Windows Azure Cloud computing-based Sea Ice Data Portal, CAFE-A framework for collaborative analysis of distributed environmental data, ontology dedicated for Earth observing satellite datasets, Semantically enhanced catalogue search model for remotely sensed imagery, Global Earth Observing System of Systems (GEOSS), CEOS WGISS Integrated Catalogue(CWIC), metadata standards for ecology flux data, FluxDataONE-an integrated solution for the management, visualization, and analysis of flux data for agricultural and ecological Studies, air quality studies in mega cities in China, and nonlinear empirical forecast model. The last part of this report is suggestions for resources and environmental data sharing to further promote the Belt and Road Initiative.
