Leandri Kruger’s career started in 2012 at the African Centre for Disaster Studies (North-West University) where she mainly contributed as a researcher for various international and national research projects, and as a lecturer for post graduate students. She is also the Programme Manager of the Postgraduate diploma in Disaster Risk Management, and has published in numerous journal articles and books. In 2012 she obtained her Masters degree in Geography and Environmental Management (cum laude) from the North-West University (NWU). She is currently busy with her doctoral studies in Geography and Environmental Management focusing mainly on the contribution of Disaster Risk Assessment (DRA) to improved Social Impact Assessment (SIA) in South Africa. In addition to teaching she has also been involved with numerous social impact assessment projects with particular expertise in renewable energy projects. Since 2017 she was also elected the North-West Branch Chair of the International Association for Impact Assessment - South Africa (IAIAsa). Her research interests are in Social Impact Assessments, disaster risk reduction, sustainable development and socio-ecological resilience.
